Did you know...

- 1 in 5 Children Live in Poverty.
- 1 in 3 Elementary School Children Live in Low Income or Poverty
A few years ago, a student was sitting in health class, and their teacher was 5 minutes late to class. When the student asked the teacher why, the teacher said that they were dropping off food for a homeless student. The student was shocked to learn that there were homeless students without enough food among his peers.
The student went to the teacher to find out what he could do to help. She sent him to the Guidance Counselor who told him ways to help. He met with Valerie the director of the Mooresville Christian Mission and they decided to form a cross sectional team of students, teachers, community members, and Christian Mission staff to develop and manage the program. The result was a combining of the summer food program that was launched last year with this new program and to make it one that provides for the children not only in the summer but throughout the year.
