Dinner Fundraiser, SOLACE for the Children

What: 20% of all proceeds go to SOLACE for the Children when you dine at Sports Page in Mooresville on Tuesday February 28th.  Don’t forget to mention your with SOLACE to your server.

Why: Sports Page is partnering with SOLACE for the children to bring 20 Afghan children to the LKN area for medical attention.

Statesville Pregnancy Center Needs

When: Collecting February 14 - March 15th

What: Pregnancy Resource Center is in desperate need of: paper towels, hand soap, Kleenex's and cleaned recycled shopping bags. They also need diapers (All sizes), wipes, baby wash, baby oil, baby shampoo, baby powder.

Celebration...During the month of January the Pregnancy Center witnessed three women come to Christ, and 1 abortion- minded client choose life.  The Pregnancy Resource Center offers couseling and encouragement for the many challenging decisions surrounding your pregnancy. They would like to thank you for your continued support of the work they are doing and let you know you are making a difference in our community.

MCM Poverty Simulation, Volunteers Needed:

Monday, February 27th, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Monday, March 5th, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Mooresville Christian Mission has been invited to be a part of an exciting program at Mooresville Intermediate School. As a culmination of their studies of poverty this quarter, they will be providing several Poverty Simulation events for their middle school aged students.

The Poverty Simulation is an interactive event for participants to experience what it would be like to be living in poverty. Each student will be provided with a life situation and will visit "stations" to deal with the financial and emotional pressures of everyday life. It is an invaluable experience to be able to walk in someone else's shoes for the duration of the simulation.

Free Sign Language Workshop

Have you ever wanted to learn sign language?

Saturday, 2/18 from 10:30am – 12:00pm at Armour Street Theater, 307 Armour Street, Davidson, NC 28036. Davidson Community Players is offering a basic of ASL class. The class will cover: simple phrases, finger spelling, numbers and color as well as valuable information about the deaf culture.

The workshop will be led by Lyndi Potton Gura, a professional sign language interrupter, teacher and actress. Lyndi is one of the featured shadow interrupters for the production of "Children of a Lesser God" which runs February 23 - March 11th.

This free workshop will introduce attendees to the basics of sign language. If you plan to attend or if you have any questions, please call Davidson Community Players at 704-892-7953, to reserve your space.

Solace Host Family Meeting, February 20

Monday, February 20, 7 pm, Williamson's Chapel UMC in Mooresville. Interested in becoming involved in international mission work? How about bringing the mission field right into your home? Solace for the Children is a nonprofit organization that provides medical and dental care to children in need from the war-torn country of Afghanistan. Children travel to the United States for six weeks during the summer to receive the medical treatment that they need. Solace is looking for volunteers to provide a loving host family for these children while they are here.

HOST FAMILY INFORMATION MEETING: if you are interested in finding out more on how to become a host family this summer there is a Solace for the Children Host Family Information meeting scheduled for next Monday evening, February 20, 7 pm, at Williamson's Chapel UMC in Mooresville, NC. The meeting is in the Chapel (the doors face Williamson Rd). This is a time to learn more about Solace for the Children, being a host family, fundraising opportunities, and time for questions for the organization.

My Sisters House Needs

Opportunity available through: Month of February

My Sister’s House offers a safe sanctuary and place of healing for those those fleeing family abuse and sexual assault. They have 8 bedrooms, each with its own bath, well equipped children’s play area, a living area, an activities room, and staff area provides a warm living environment for those needing safe sanctuary. Two therapists as well as a victim advocate/educator work with victims both in the shelter and in the community.

What: Current needs: Shampoo, conditioner, hair products for all ethnicities, paper products, cleaning supplies, generic ibuprofen, cold and cough medicine, laundry detergent and new under wear and socks for all age groups.

Why: By giving and showing love to those in their distress you are showing them hope and love in Jesus Christ. Through the work being done at My Sister House education, advocacy and peer support, moving from victim to survivor is made possible.
